Gears are often a main part of steampunk design. They bring a nice industrial element to the victorian feel of fabric that is often used. I REALLY love the use of gears in the cupcakes that are featured, its just really intriguing. That and now i really want a cupcake also :)

I love that when going the Steampunk route you can combine soft elements like peacock feathers, ribbons and fabrics with hard objects like worn brass, gears and metal objects. it just makes such an interesting combination that is totally unique in style.
